Who May Use LAWN.
Please note that this wireless service is
provided only in the area where we have coverage. Current coverage is
limited in Computer Science floors. Coverage will be added in time.
Any one whose status is listed in the menu and those whose servers
have been trusted by LAWN Authenticator may use this service.
A computer equiped with 802.11b or WiFi Compliant wireless
card.
Cookie, and Javascript enable on your web browser. See Enabling
Cookie, or Enabling

Requirements
Your Wireless card set to look for SSID: LAWN with no WEP
encryption.
Note: Although SSID: ANY will work, we dont recommend it
unless you are sure that there are no other access points in the
area.
Login Process
To login to LAWN, you need only to open your browser. If your
internet browser is set to go to a certain page, you will be
forwarded to the login screen. Otherwise, you will need to type:
https://login.rutgers.edu/wireless/
Once you see the login screen, there are 2 ways to
get access. The first is by the
group
classification and the other is
by email address.
On the login screen, you see Status item
shown by the figure on the left. This item classifies users into
groups. If you dont belong in the group, you may be able to login
using your email address by selecting OTHER.
Note: Group user can also login using
his/her email address.
If you are a visitor, try use
whatever email address and password you have currently. There is a big
chance you will be able to use LAWN using your existing credential
from your university or ISPs. If you are still not able to login, let
us know by sending email to help@cs.rutgers.edu. Don't forget to tell
us what POP/IMAP servers you are using to read your email from home
and what your email address is.Once verified, we can add your
organization into LAWN permanently.
To login using your Status, follow steps below:.
Select your status from the Status menu.
Enter your
Username and
Password
Click on the Login button to login.

To login using OTHER status, follow steps below:
Select OTHER from the status menu.
Enter your Email
Addressand Password
Click the Login button.

If you pass the authentication process, the login window will
disappear and you will be forwarded to a new page.
WARNING About
LAWN
This login window is secured by SSL Encryption.
Your Login information is protected during login.
However, other communications
on this wireless network are not secured.
This wireless network does not encrypt any other in the
air. To keep your data secure, you MUST use
software that encrypt your communications. Example of such software
are: Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) and Virtual Private
Network (VPN).

Possible
Problems
There are a couple possible problem that may occur. Here is a list
and what to do about it.
Q: Why can't I send my email?.
A: Due to too many infected machines on LAWN,
unsecured SMTP port (port 25) were blocked. Users are required
to send email via Secured SMTP (SMTP via SSL on port 465). See your
email client Outgoing Server advanced configuration.
Important: If you were using non secure port to send your email before, you are advised to
chnage your email password immediately as the password were broadcast
in the clear.
Q: Do you MUST have JavaScript
(Active Scripting) and Cookie On?
A: Yes. Please turn JavaScript, Java and
Cookie on or you can not login. See Enabling

Note: Make sure that your server has been
trusted by LAWN Authenticator. If you would like us to add other
machine for OTHER authentication, please contact:

Q: How do I
Logout?
A: To
Logout
you simply turn off or put your machine to sleep or click on the
LOGOUT button. ( you have to allow popup window for login.rutgers.edu
to see this window). LAWN aso has auto logout feature which logged
you out after 10 minutes of no response. You
can also go back to http://login.rutgers.edu/wireless/logout/
to logout manually.
